The release of the YotaPhone last year came and went without leaving a lot of excitement or good memories behind. In a world where smartphones are signed by the likes of Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, Amazon and others, who pays attention to a Russian company launching yet another handset?
However, some people in the tech world payed a lot of attention to the first generation YotaPhone and kept it in mind, as even if it was fundamentally flawed, the phone had a lot of potential. That potential speaks out loud today, as the Russian company teased the YotaPhone 2 launch date as being December 3, 2014.
Why is the tech world so excited regarding the YotaPhone 2? Well, the tech journalists got their hands on this unique piece of hardware prototypes earlier in February, when the company first unveiled the phone. Besides the prototypes, there is no consumers’ version available on the market yet. Given the latest news, the YotaPhone 2 launch date of December 3 represents the official release of the mass consumption variant.
The novelty and the excitement surrounding this smartphone come from the fact that it sports two touch screens. You have to admit, a dual – screen smartphone is not that common on the market. The YotaPhone 2 features a normal LCD touch screen and a fully-touch sensitive E-Ink display. While the previous version didn’t work properly and proved to be a disappointment, the second – gen smartphone is said to rise to the expectations.
BGR calls this phone “the coolest Android handset ever produced” and we can all understand why: with its dual – screen option, the phone can give a person the possibility to use the low-energy E-Ink display without having to turn on the battery – depleting LCD screen.
The E – Ink display is said to be able to offer the user up to 50 hours of battery life. In a world where smartphones’ batteries are known to get drained fast, this YotaPhone 2 feature is a huge development.
But it is more to the YotaPhone 2 than its dual screen. All in all, the cell phone boasts all the usual flagship smartphones’ features: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an 8-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, the latest Android version and so on.
Back to the YotaPhone 2 launch date, the Russian company posted some pictures and some teasers saying that the big release would take place in London during an invite – only event. The company also said that the YotaPhone 2 would be available for starters in Russia and EMEA countries. According to tech specialists, the London event will most likely be the place where the company will announce the markets, the launch dates and the prices for the beginning of next year.
