Facebook is fretting and implementing numerous changes to its news feed features, all in the hopes of making their videos more visible and more attractive. The social network has announced its intention to take on YouTube, but somehow it seems very farfetched that it could ever do so.
YouTube has a longstanding reputation based on years and years of experience. People have grown up watching videos on YouTube, while Facebook’s videos are something that still feels like an extension to their posts.
The main advantage that YouTube has over Facebook is that it is a database, while the social network is a feed. YouTube offers its users the possibility of searching for a video and then scrolling through the options that the website generates to find the best match possible.
Facebook on the other hand only offers the possibility of watching what other users post. Sometimes it even gives of an annoying vibe because its videos are on auto-play. Therefore, there is a sizable difference between the video services of the social network and the video database that is YouTube.
“Our users are actually clicking. We want our users engaged. We want them not just channel surfing. We want them to say I saw that video, I cared about that video.” said Susan Wojcicki, YouTube’s chief executive .
Susan Wojcicki also mentioned that YouTube intends to affirm its position on the video market by working on its mobile sector. She said that this is the priority of the company at the moment, as this is the main part that needs improvement.
While Facebook has slim chances of overpowering YouTube on desktop, the mobile market it quite different. YouTube intends to convey more accessibility to its app version, so that it could be even more attractive to social media users.
Furthermore, YouTube is aiming to bring the enormous gaming community a website of their very own. YouTube Gaming will only feature gaming related videos and it will include the latest gaming news, the best possible gameplay videos from the best players out there and many more attractive features meant to bring gamers under the same virtual roof.
The gaming website is intended as a simpler way for gamers to search for the best possible videos for them, without having to share the database with every other type of videos. By having a strictly gaming database, the results the program generates for its users’ searches will be immensely more accurate and this will bring great authority to the site.
Ultimately, despite Facebook’s greatest efforts, YouTube remains the titan of the video market. The undefeated leader remains at the top of all the performance lists and it doesn’t look like things are about to change in the near future.
