Soon all people will be connected to the Internet. Virgin Galactic and OneWeb Ltd have created a constellation of satellites that will escalade to a larger Internet access. A huge satellite web will bring everyone Internet access.

The purpose of this enormous project is to provide Internet coverage to remote areas. OneWeb Ltd is planning on working with local operators in order to gain access through a Wi-Fi or a 3G or even a 2G connection. The last two are to be used with licensed operator spectrum while LTE or Wi-Fi with an unlicensed one.

Facebook and Google previously worked at several plans to offer global Internet access. However, they failed in doing so. Now a new attempt is in order. OneWeb Ltd will be responsible with building and launching the satellites. When they have reached their preset destination, OneWeb Ltd will also operate them.

Meanwhile, Virgin Galactic will be using LauncherOne programme. This specially designed programme will achieve frequent satellite launches at a lower cost. LauncherOne is an orbital vehicle built from two stage rockets. It will be powered by LOX/RP-1 liquid rocket engines.

The users’ terminals will install themselves and will enable Internet coverage for a phone, tablet or even a computer. OneWeb will be responsible for developing such self-installable terminals. Those areas will also contribute at global emergency. This means that when a natural disaster will occur help will be provided. People will be able to gain access to refugee camps or any other places where help will be required.

These low-orbit satellites are to be founded by The Virgin Group and Qualcomm Incorporated. The two are considered to be main investors. The most powerful influences regarding financial status Sir Richard Branson, Mr Wyler and Dr Paul Jacobs. The three men are part of the OneWeb Board of Directors.

International Telecommunications Union recently conducted a study proving that half of the population does not have Internet access.  The new satellite constellation will definitely improve that small figure.

Sir Richard Branson feels extremely positive and hopeful about this project. He believes that the three billion people who lack Internet access will bring new opportunities and even change lives many people. Such opportunities lie in education and business development.

Children will be able to receive a proper education while adults will keep in touch with latest news around the world in order to create businesses.
