The CloudOn representative stated that the company is looking forward to beginning its work with Dropbox. The representative also claimed that both companies share the same principles and goals regarding “reimagining docs”. The two companie feel confident that that this merger will have a greater impact in the editing and storage market.
Dropbox has been purchasing small companies for quite some time now because they were looking to spread their presence overseas. Dropbox has also purchased the mobile application Mailbox as well as Droptalk, the messaging stratup. Another app which is worth mentioning is Hackpad, the note-taking application. Dropbox has been looking to expand even more its territory.
According to the head of product, business and mobile department belonging to Dropbox, this partnership now has the biggest number of employees ever owned by Dropbox.
CloudOn was first launched in the Internet business three years ago when it released an iPad application. The application developed used the mobile phone as an interface device for a full cloud-based application which was previously located in their servers. This interface allowed its users to take advantage of Microsoft Office on iPad devices. More than 90 million documents have been edited ever since.
Since then, CloudOn has continuously evolved on Office document editing. It seems like a natural choice to create a merger between CloudOn and Dropbox. This merger offers Dropbox the opportunity to reach Israel.
This new startup is planning on transforming file-sharing services into online platforms for different applications. The target for Dropbox is challenging Windows to develop a more nimble platform that could sustain running more productivity applications at home, at work, everywhere. Windows is not the only company which is to be taken into consideration regarding the nimble platform. Other enormous companies will hear Dropbox’s proposal.
Now, most of Dropbox’s users are overseas: more than 70 percent. It has headquarters located in several parts of the world such as Dublin, Sydney, Tokyo and from now on Israel.
The partnership between Dropbox and CloudOn will begin commencing its actions in March. Users will be able to own services that enable editing documents on mobile phones as well as other mobile devices.
