This one is not a teenager anymore: Adobe Photoshop, the most venerable image editing software has reached its 25th anniversary. The grand event has happened on Thursday and it moved the fans all over the world, even if they were professionals or simple enthusiastic amateurs.
The first step of Adobe Photoshop has been taken in the year 1987, where PhD student Thomas Knoll had the idea of producing a greyscale pixel imaging program with the help of his Macintosh Plus that was monochrome at the time and has just started having some serious roots in the business. As a consequence, in 1989 Photoshop has opened its eyes under the Adobe licence that will father it until the present day and hopefully many more to come. The first official edition of Photoshop has been released in 1990 on a platform of Apple Macintosh. Thoman Knoll has also been helped by his brother John, who was at the time an employee at the LucasFilm’s Industrial Light & Magic.
Shantanu Narayen, Adobe president and CEO has made a public statement about the anniversary of Photoshop.
“For 25 years, Photoshop has inspired artists and designers to craft images of stunning beauty and reality-bending creativity. From desktop publishing, to fashion photography, movie production, website design, mobile app creation and now 3D Printing, Photoshop continues to redefine industries and creative possibilities. And today that Photoshop magic is available to millions of new users, thanks to Adobe Creative Cloud.”
The celebration of Photoshop’s anniversary has given birth to a special webpage that is entirely dedicated to this specific event. An astonishing interview with the founder of the program, Thomas Knoll is also part of the site, as well as highlights taken from the entire activity of artists who use the program day by day. Furthermore, Thursday will be a special day for the fans of Photoshop, because Thomas Knoll will participate in a Reddit Ask Me Anything session at 2 PM Pacific. All questions will be answered and maybe some interesting facts will be given to the public for the first time by the one who by far has the right to do so.
In addition, the festivity includes a contest that will take place online, on the Behance sharing platform. 25 visual artists that are under the age of 25 will be sharing their knowledge and talent in Photoshop by uploading projects. The grand prize is being featured as an artist on Photoshop’s Instagram feed for a period of two entire weeks.
The latest version of Photoshop is CC2014 and it is offered as a part of the Creative Cloud Photography Plan.
