On October 24, Amazon revealed a new and redesigned Kindle mobile app, one released just a few hours after the announcement that a select number of models would also be getting a discount. Just as with the price bonus, the redesign was released just in time for the Kindle’s 10th anniversary.
The Amazon Kindle App Gets A Deeper Goodreads Integration
Amazon’s Kindle mobile app will start featuring a new layout, as well as a new theme, as users will be able to choose between a dark or light theme. It is also getting a new aesthetic and also a new app icon. This now features only the “Tree Kid” silhouette and has a flatter look.
There are also a number of various other stylistic but also utility changes. For example, the search bar will be more prominently placed. A “one-tap access” feature was also added, which will help users more easily return to reading their book. This is because the book being read will appear as a miniaturized rectangle at the bottom of the app, which will continue appearing as the user scrolls through the app.
Larger display images for book covers as well as the Boookerly font are also among the changes.
The new Amazon Kindle app will also be coming with a deeper Goodreads integration. Acquired by Amazon back in 2013, this integration allowed Kindle app users to mark their book as read on their connected Goodreads account, among others.
Starting with the latest upgrade, this deeper integration will enable a quicker access to the user’s recommendation lists as well as their friends’ profiles from a sidebar. Also, alongside their Amazon Kindle app account page, the users will be seeing a Goodreads-infused profile section.
The Kindle app will also be getting a redesigned notification center, with customizable pings for Goodreads accounts, among others.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Kindle, Amazon announced that a select number of models would be getting a $30 discount. The first Kindle model was released almost 10 years ago, the exact date being less than a month away, on November 19.
