Samsung is preparing to give some special treatment for its Galaxy S3, one of its most successful devices. Galaxy S3 will get an Android 4.2.2 update in June, according to SamMobile, the renowned Samsung tipster. To put it more clearly, Galaxy S3 owners will not only get an expected Android upgrade, but also get to enjoy a few exceptional features of the latest Galaxy S4 smartphone.
Recently, SamMobile unveiled a test build – JDQ39 – to update the Galaxy S3 to the latest Android version. Though the leaked build is unofficial, warning users to download at their own risk, the tipster said that it is as good as the official build. That said, the official release is somewhere around the corner.
And now for the special treatment, the Galaxy S3 owners can experience the 2013 flagship smartphone with the latest software features, if not hardware. Among the special features, Galaxy S3 will get the Galaxy S4-esque lockscreen featuring a new ripple effect. Other Galaxy S4 features include a new S-Voice, new screen modes, actionable notifications, performance upgrades, added security features and new gallery modes, among others. There is no information on whether the S4 camera options will come with the update.
The upgrade will also bring in the standard features that come with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update. These include actionable notifications, new user-interface for the Settings screen, and TouchWiz toggles among others.
Samsung has always given thought to its older handsets by providing timely upgrades keeping pace with new devices and pleasing owners of older handsets. The June upgrade date may not hold good for all variants. Carrier-bound devices may receive the update a little later than the announced date. Samsung has yet to confirm the upgrade details, so users must remember that delays have occurred in the past.
