As some of you may know, there was a previous version of this program named Appleseed but that was based on invitation only offered by Apple from time to time. The Beta Seed program, on the other hand, is available to anyone that holds an Apple ID.
Apple recommends that before you install any beta software you should make a backup. If you run a downloadable Beta Access Utility, it will create beta seed versions of OS X. after you finished installing the Beta Access Utility you will see the pre-released software appearing in the Updates window of the Mac App Store.
This is not something new for Apple. They released the earliest available version of their OS X in September 2000, six months before the official release. Recently, the company has been offering pre-release versions of other software like Boot Camp, Safari and Messages but Apple Beta Seed for OS X is the first time that Apple has had any kind of beta-distribution for the support of one of their own platforms.
Apple Beta Seed for OS X – how can one join the program?
If you want to join Apple’s new initiative you need log in with your Apple ID account and agree the confidentiality terms. This means that you are forbidden to discuss or share any info about the pre-release software with those who are not using the software. You also need to be of legal age in order to accept the agreement and you are required to give feedback when Apple will ask for it. This agreement also warns the users that there are certain dangers to using a pre-release version of any software and this can be harmful for your computer.
