A Cheaper iPhone 5C?
The iPhone 5C disappointed because people were foolishly expecting a dirt-cheap phone, which Apple will never do. Unlocked and contract free, a 16GB iPhone 5C model costs $549 and a 32GB one is priced at $649. With a wireless service plan the 16GB model starts from $99 and the 32GB one, from $199. That’s not even remotely cheap!
Could this news mean that Apple has changed their minds about what a cheap phone should be? The 8GB model didn’t previously exist, but O2 announced that an 8GB model will be available for sale starting with the 18th of March 2014. The retailer couldn’t confirm the price for the new 8Gb model of the iPhone 5C, but earlier leaked information that hinted at a cheaper iPhone 5C revealed that the 8GB model could be selling for around 83$ (€60) cheaper that the current 16GB model.
So, is this the cheaper iPhone 5C phone we have been waiting for? Most likely not. The initial disappointment still remains and it shows in Apple’s sales. The cheaper iPhone 5C will help matters and an increase in sales is expected, as soon as the 8GB model starts becoming available through retailers worldwide.
