It seems things have changed inspire of the recent announcement made by the
Jong Seok, the CEO of LG Mobile Communications that there were no specific
plans by the brand to make o any other mobile platforms. It seems LG is all set to
release some new smartphones that will run on Windows Phone 8.
Ever since the Optimus 7, this could be first Windows Phone by chaebol. Optimus
7, was one of the favorite WP7 handsets. One can expect LG to make some
announcements next month at Mobile World Congress. There are claims of a
5.5-inch full-HD flagship smartphone from LG that is headed for the Barcelona
tradeshow.
One of local partner firms of LG confirmed the news and there are reports
suggesting 75 million handsets to be shipped by the brand this year. This is a
significant increase from the 45 million shipped in 2012. it has been many years
since we saw LG launching a smartphone based on Microsoft’s mobile operating
system.
As LG has made Windows Phone 7.5 based smartphones earlier, the news is not
a colossal departure from its tactics. The company is planning to unveil a 5.5-inch
1080p phablet in February at the Mobile World Congress.
Although LG seems to have lost significant time in the smartphone market that
already seems to be dominated by Samsung’s Android market, the company has
solid plans to grow quietly in standing. Google and LG partnered to launch the
Nexus in November that did collect lot of critical acclaim globally.
LG Windows Phone handsets are set to give competition to Android devices and
popular Nokia’s Lumia phones. According to LG’s spokesperson, a number of
new Optimus devices will be released this year along with some smartphones that
will run Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8. LG is reportedly working hard at on a
successor that may launch under LG’s own Optimus brand or as Nexus 5.
