Apple’s team has recently hired a new artificial intelligence specialist. On October 18th, the associate professor at Carnegie Mellon University, Ruslan Salakhutdinov was announced to be a new member of Apple’s team. He will still continue his activity at Carnegie Mellon University. One of the research fields for which Salakhutdinov will be responsible is the deep learning domain.
Revolutionary ideas which managed to boost even more the area of deep learning are the development of could computing teamed together with graphics processing units and particular computer chips designed for information processing. The ascent of cloud computing implemented the idea of efficiently storing enormous amounts of data, being a very useful tool for large enterprises.
The Artificial Intelligence domain has advanced so much that computers have now the capability of recognizing language and spotting individual animals in different photos. A lot of information technology assistants are powered by this new technology called artificial intelligence. Among those, we found out about digital assistants like Alexa created by Amazon, Cortana generated by Microsoft and Siri produced by Apple.
These digital assistants are construed in such a way that they are familiar with the human voice, the capacity of understanding speech acts and the possibility of answering their questions. Some experts claim that at the top of Artificial Intelligence companies there is Facebook and Google, Apple being considered to be somewhere behind the advancement of the first two tech companies. The Apple’s new Artificial Intelligence specialist is prone to work hard and conduct thorough research meant to develop this domain more than expected.
Apple is not only hoping for changes in the AI field, but it also tries to improve the team of specialists who have experience in Computer Vision, Reinforcement Learning, Optimization, Machine Learning and Data Mining. Salakhutdinov is qualified for the job, considering the fact that he was first a professor at the University of Toronto and all his researchers were sponsored by tech companies like Samsung, Google, and Microsoft.
The new Artificial Intelligence specialist has published a lot of papers on neural networks, which represents an area of AI vital for image and voice recognition. Lately, Apple has purchased Tuplejump which is a machine-learning startup. Another similar acquisition was made last August, being valued at two hundred million dollars.
