If you used to spend a lot of time on the internet browsing random websites, then you must know of StumbleUpon. The content discovery website delivered random pages that suited your interests, making you stay stuck to the screen of your device for hours on end. Now, its creators have announced it will officially shut down on June 30th, but worry not. You can keep surfing through random websites on a new tool.
StumbleUpon was a great tool that mysteriously gave you interesting content
StumbleUpon is probably the favorite tool of procrastinators, but also of people who love searching new things on the internet and constantly being surprised. At first, you had to set up a list of interests, so StumbleUpon would know what you want to see. Afterwards, by clicking the Stumble button, the tool will deliver you random content according to your likes.
If you find something interesting, you can save that particular website. If not, you can click the Stumble button again and do this until you get something that really suits you. Doing this is pretty addictive, especially when you find interesting content you otherwise wouldn’t have known of.
StumbleUpon is moving to a similar tool called Mix.com
However, the time of StumbleUpon has come to an end. Garret Camp, the founder of the tool who is also a cofounder at Uber, revealed the service will shut down on June 30th. Even if you haven’t heard of it in a long time, it had still gathered over 40 million users who might not want to lose their content.
This is why Camp announced a replacement for it. Mix.com is a similar content discovery tool that is available both on web and in a mobile version. On top of that, it has a lot more features than StumbleUpon, and you can import all your content there. However, there’s something you might not enjoy about Mix.com.
One great thing about StumbleUpon was the mystery behind each website. Whenever you clicked the Stumble button, you jumped from the website you were on to a secret one. Mix.com gathers all the content suiting your interests in one place. This means it will be displayed as a list, so you’ll have no surprise while browsing through it.
