Volkswagen revealed their new autonomous Microbus concept at the auto show in Detroit. The I.D. Buzz Concept is meant to transform the old concept of a minivan into every hippie fans’ dream. This new model is a fascinating one. People were able to admire it at the North America International Auto Show. The question which arises afterward was that some doubt it that Volkswagen will actually build it.
For the moment, the I.D. Buzz Concept represents only a concept. Some of the ideas might not be implemented when building the car they may remain only concepts for the show. Other innovative plans for the new design may be implemented, but they might not work according to the scheme.
Nevertheless, Volkswagen stated that the new minivan would be equipped with a dual engine, a horsepower of 369, having a battery specially designed for electric cars which may consume 111 kilowatts/hour. In the US Environmental Protection Agency’s test, the autonomous microbus obtained a score of 270 miles.
The most significant point here is that the battery can be recharged up to 80% in only half an hour by making use of a CCS charger of 150 kilowatts. The battery which is mounted to the floor and the minibus’ wheelbase of about 130 inches transform the vehicle into a very spacious one.
The new electric car has an entirely autonomous driving mode named the I.D. Pilot. When driving, the steering wheel of the minibus retracts into the dashboard. The ambient light changes into another one meant to induce relaxation. What is more, the seat of the driver can also turn 180 degrees, facing the other passengers.
However, all these ideas were only meant to be presented for the car show. Hopefully, they will also be implemented into Volkswagen’s new autonomous microbus being the perfect holiday car for you and your friends. These new features explained by the automaker are bound to let the customers know how an electric minibus would work.
Volkswagen noted that the I.D. Buzz Concept is founded on the upcoming Modular Electric Drive Kit, known as MEB. MEB represents a newly developed vehicle architecture known to be flexible, only being built for autonomous vehicles. This could mean that this car design could transform all the ideas presented into reality in just a few years.
