There are many companies who want to develop self-driving cars. Baidu, a huge company from China, said it has big plans regarding this matter. It wants to develop driverless cars for public, which will be available in 2018. Jing Wang, vice president of the company, said that they will launch these type of cars for private use in a few years.
Baidu not only wants to develop its self-driving cars in China. It already said they got the license to test the vehicles in California. They prepared this for some time and now it seems that their plans are going to become true. The company put its efforts to develop two technologies that will make the life of drivers easier.
The first one focuses on artificial intelligence. The cars will learn to understand what is around them and they will be able to take decisions. This will be possible to a high-performance, image recognition server. The officials said that according to the biggest traffic scenario data, their vehicular recognition has a rate of 90,13%. This is one of the best in the world. We will have cars who will be able to park on their own or do things we saw just in movies.
The second technology Baidu will use is the HD maps. These are important for a self-driving car. It is the only way cars will know where they are and where they are going. Baidu will be the first company from China which will produce 3D maps for its vehicles.
The cars have passed their tests in difficult conditions or during the night. They are going to test vehicles in other cities of China and soon you will be able to see them on the street , in California. We can’t wait to see how good these self-driving cars are. We already know that Tesla promised to launch self-driving cars in the future and it now it seems more companies are interested in doing this.
Baidu could be able to get more users than others because they use different technologies, which allow the driver to relax while the car is doing everything. The cars could be on the market in 2018, which means we do not have so much time to wait. Who would have thought that in the future we could be able to use a car without driving it.
