The BBM app for Android and iOS has been in the making for quite some time now and is slated for a late summer release. This will introduce the famed BlackBerry Messenger services on the two most prevalent operating systems now in use, namely Android and iOS. However, the goodies just don’t stop here as analysts would like us to believe there is much more in the offing, something that could make Blackberry in sort of Twitter or Facebook.
The next big thing coming our way is instant messaging. This would render text messaging into something of archival value. Improved technology on the one hand has led the devices into becoming even more smart, while incorporating the latest transmission technology by the network service providers has resulted in blazingly fast internet connection. These together with the advent of cloud technology have ensured instant messaging to be the latest in thing. This will go on to replace the messaging service for which we have to depend on the service providers. If Blackberry can ensure BBM makes it possible for devices with different operating systems to be able to send instant messages to each other, then the BBM will be transformed into a cash cow for sure.
Money Fool also confirms this theory in their latest report stating BBM app to be the revenue generator with its portability to iPhone and Android based devices.
BBM app can be expected to be a free service, and this has also been confirmed by CEO of BlackBerry Thorsten at a press conference recently. Where BlackBerry is expected to generate revenue would be the charges they levy on the premium services like voice and video calling features.
BlackBerry CEO has also confirmed that the app would run on any device running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and above as well as iOS 6 and later.
