Verizon Wireless will start selling the BlackBerry Z30 sometime in November and claims to be the exclusive carrier, even though we have seen leaked photos of the smartphone with AT&T branding, pointing at a second carrier in the mix sometime in the near future.
The BlackBerry Z30 comes with a 5-inch 720 x 1280 display, dual-core Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 8MP rear camera and BB10.2 OS. It is ideal for anyone who loves BlackBerry’s operating system and services, but we would pass it for a top-end Android device.
Verizon Wireless will offer the smartphone out for $199.99 on a two-year contract or $22 a month on a Verizon Edge plan. The impression is BlackBerry still wants to take on the big boys when it comes to their flagship device, an admirable move but not one that will make them a lot of money.
BlackBerry should consider trying to grab users with price drops, the BlackBerry Q10 and Z10 failed to gain any traction because in some areas they were priced higher than the Galaxy S4, iPhone 5 and HTC One, the three top of the line smartphones.
This may be the final BlackBerry device before we see a buyout. Fairfax Financial Holdings placed a bid for $4.7 billion, a far cry from the $100 billion BlackBerry was unofficially valued at before the iPhone was announced.
The long downward path has left BlackBerry scrapping the barrel and they just recently released BBM onto Android and iOS, in an attempt to claw back users onto their messaging service. It seems to have worked, with over 20 million sign ups in a week.
