During the Game Developers Conference, the developer of Borderlands 3, Gearbox Software, unveiled a few details, offering the fans a tech demo. They revealed some of the techniques which were supposed to be incorporated into the future game known as Borderlands 3 which is currently under development. Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox Software, argued that the images seen were only part of the tech demo and not the actual game.
The discussion comprises some of the techniques which were used by Gearbox to develop Borderlands games’ look. Pitchford started his discussion by presenting the edge summarizing which was employed by Gearbox Software. He argued that their aim is to take care of the evolution of this game, to determine it to become one of the next generation games, having a more natural look.
Pitchford also explained more about the new tools implemented by Gearbox which offer more flexibility. Mainly, one of the tools offers gamers the possibility to simulate a scene in real time just as the time of the day changes. What is more, the player will notice different physics when traveling from one planet to the other and explore them.
The difference in physics will be noticeable as they will be able to see the moon and the sun in different positions than players were used to seeing them when they were located on Pandora. However, Pitchford did not argue that this work explained by him is all part of the new Borderlands 3. These details indicate the evolution of past techniques which were used for past games from the same series.
There appears a Borderlands-like character in two distinct scenes. The first times she appears with her back to the viewers, and then we later see her shoulder pad blocking her face. Pitchford stated that players should not worry about this character which appears in the tech demo. But, however, he claims that her face was obstructed there for a reason.
This may mean that this is an old character which was present in previous games. In the end, the CEO if Gearbox displayed a scene which might offer players a taste of how the Gearbox’ future game will look like. He also stated that this does not represent a video game, but a technology demonstration of intensive research.
