For all the tech enthusiasts out there, it might finally be the time when the
consumer market takes mobile phones integrated in wrist watches seriously. We
have observed many attempts in the past for creating the perfect “smartwatch”.
However, their practically has always been under question as well as their battery
life. In the coming future, gone will be the time when the watches tied around your
wrist just display time to you.
I lied for the part where I said that mobile phones will be integrated in wrist
watches. The smartwatches featured at the CES 2013 were basically watches
with the capability to ‘sync’ with your smart phone. These watches will be able to
grab information from your cell phones and display it on their digital screen. The
watches will pick up data through bluetooth or wireless connection.
Hence, with the turn of your wrist you will know the latest updates from your
sport, any Facebook news, the details of the person calling, any unchecked e-
mails etc. Some watches take things one step further and also add voice enabled
commands. So you can give commands to your phone lying in the pocket by just
talking to your phone. The watches will have their independent processors and
storage space, which will also allow developers to create applications for the
Some other examples like the Pebble Basis Science, which tap into the GPS
resources of the phone to keep a track on your motion, come in handy when
you are jogging or running. These phones can display you information about
your heart rate, speed, distance traveled, sweat formation, temperature, duration
of workout, number of steps you have taken etc. The possibilities of a smart
phone accessory are unlimited. It is only the question of when and how these
smartwatches will become a common device.
