China is the most populated country in the world. This means millions of consumers every day. They buy food, clothes, gadgets and smartphones. Talking about smartphones, you could be surprised which brands share the market. According to a new study, Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo are the top three phone leaders in China. The report was made for the second quarter of 2016 and released by the International Data Corporation.
Even though not all of these brands are popular in the United States, it seems that the Chinese people are more interested in buying cheaper phones. Xiaomi, one of the companies that made history in Asia, is only on the fourth position. Their shipment saw a drop as they delivered only 10, 5 million smartphones, from 17, 1 millions in the same period last year. Xiaomi is not the only company that has major issues in China. Apple’s sales are also in danger as they managed to be only no. 5 in the market.
Apple’s officials know that this is happening because they have cheaper local rivals. Although Apple has tried for many years to reach as many users as possible in China, it seems that if they will not make cheaper smartphones, they will never succeed in this country. This happens also in India, where Samsung is taking over. However, we are sure that Apple is waiting for the market to develop and their prices will be the same in every country.
How did Huawei and Oppo succeed in China? They had very good marketing messages with their new smartphones, which made people curious about them. Moreover, their prices are cheaper than others and this is a huge advantage. They are leaving big companies, like Apple and Samsung, behind. Chinese people seem to care about the quality and marketing also. Companies that hired celebrities as their brand ambassadors had more success that the others.
We are waiting to see if the new iPhone 7, which will be released in September, will change something in the Chinese market. Until then, Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo are sharing a half of the market, having no problems in selling more than other companies. Even though Apple has a big success in the U.S. and Europe, they must have new marketing ideas if they want to be leaders in China. What do you think? Will Apple manage to raise its sales or Chinese people will still prefer smartphones from local companies?
