The highest purpose that a gadget company can have is achieving faster performance, while using less energy. Chip Designer ARM Holdings PLC believes that they can create such a processor and launch it on the market quite soon. This new technology refers to mobile devices, as the company focuses 95 percent on the creating and designing mobile phones and everything that they would need in order to stay on top of the market sales.
Cortex A-72 processor is the brand new, faster concept of ARM Holdings PLC and it is the proof that they have to sustain all opinions regarding novelty. More than 10 companies are enchanted to licence it. The usage of this novelty will be used in mobile phones that are planned to be on the market in 2016.
As far as the much promised changes that ARM made, the rapidity of the processor is a certainty: it is 3.5 times faster than all the other processors that ARM has designed before at all its mobile phones that have been sold in 2014. The advanced manufacturing will be offered by the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Regarding the power, it should consume between 2 and 2.5W, more or less, depending on that is running at that certain time on the device. Futhermore, it runs a ARMv7 32-bit and ARMv8-A 64-bit code, including the TrustZone. The chip can be scaled up to four cores per processor cluster. A single core will draw 0.5W, but this will happen quite rarely.
Ian Ferguson, an ARM vice president of marketing has talked publicly about the issues that they are about to face.
“We are still adamant that we are on a path where the phone becomes the primary compute device. Gaming has clearly moved from PCs and is coming onto the phone. This obviously is driving more performance requirements.”
Even if the announcement and the new chip refers to smartphones, in fact the company has put up a higher plan for it. In a short period of time, Nandan Nayampally, another ARM marketing vice president believes that the chip will also become suitable for tablets and even laptops, year by year. This idea comes after a bunch of conversations that ARM had with their corporate chief, that reveal the direction of the company: desktop computers are going to be entirely replaced by smartphones. Unfortunately, this is a future expectation, because at present, a lot of people still use desktop computers for special programs, complicated text writings, slide presentations, etc.
