Various Twitter accounts have been hacked lately, causing its followers a lot of annoying days. But some Twitter accounts are not taken down only for amusement, but to share a message and to drag attention. The latest one has been that of the Newsweek’s magazine, where the grand majority of threats were actually against the President of the USA, Barrack Obama. This issue has been stated by the White House spokesman Josh Earnest, on Tuesday. Fortunately, the danger has been identified: a group calling themselves the “Cyber Caliphate” has said yes when accused of hacking the Newsweek magazine. The connection with the Islamic State (ISIS) was confirmed. This is not the first time they hack such an account, taking into consideration that they previously hacked @Centcom on Witter, the account of the United States Command.
The connection between the Cyber Caliphate and the Charlie Hebdo unfortunate event is undenying. Threats that are towards the president and his family are of high importance. The account sustains a movement called “Je suis IS”, a reference to the Islam State and the French magazine. This same group is the one that hacked all social media sites and profiles from the Pentagon social media and on their Twitter, the Cyber Caliphate has posted on Valentine’s Day the following:
“#MichelleObama! We’re watching you, you girls and your husband!”
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest strongly believes that the FBI is investigating the Newsweek hack.
“I don’t have any response to the claims that are made by these hackers. I can tell you we’ve seen a number of high profile incidents over the past months.”
The amount of time in which the account has been taken control of was more than 14 minutes. The support team from Twitter has regained control of the account and then the Newsweek managing editor Kira Bindrim has apologized publicly for the inconvenient.
“We apologize to our readers for anything offensive that might have been sent from our account during that period, and are working to strengthen our newsroom security measures going forward.”
Newsweek is part of IBT Media, the parent company of this magazine, and also of International Business Times and Latin Times, that were also hacked before this certain one, this Tuesday.
One of the great influences and forces of the world, the FBI, also got involved in this hacking problem, because the presidential family has been involved in the threatening. This makes the problem have a great importance and makes everyone even more careful with their security options.
