Apple female employees do not seem to be happy about their work environment. According to some leaked emails, the company has a “very toxic atmosphere”, especially for women. The emails were obtained by Melanie Ehrenkranz, from Mic. It seems that women that work at Apple have to hear jokes about rape and gender stereotypes made by male workers.
One of the female employees, who was presented as Danielle, said that her male co-workers were joking about a man entering their office to rape everybody. Danielle has made some formal complaints to the managers, but nothing change. That is when she decided to escalate her issues to Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook. He has never responded to that email. The woman also said she was not feeling safe in a work environment where man is able to make rape jokes. Moreover, Danielle is not the only woman who has complained about this issues. There are more emails from Apple employees who talk about discrimination. According to the report, the emails are from current and former employees.
The company did not want to comment on what Danielle said and this could mean that there are some big issues with the work environment. They could try to solve them and then they will talk about this matter.
This is not the only problem Apple has. Many people reported that Apple has not enough diversity among its employees. The company shared its report, showing that they increased the number of women that were hired. However, Apple is still seen as a company for white people, where men have more power than women. Tim Cook promised to spend more than 50 million dollars for the diversity of the company.
Female employees seem to have major issues with the company and we will not be surprised if there will be a lawsuit to solve them. Managers do not seem to pay attention to these incidents and women think this happens because of sexism.
On August 4, a woman called Amanda, said she made a complaint with the Department of Fair Employment and Housing. She hopes that they will discover how Apple treats women and that thing will change in the future. We will see if Tim Cook will have something to say about this situation and how they are going to improve the work environment.
