When you get a job you tend to get pretty excited about the benefits offered to you by the company where you’re going to be working for an undetermined period of time. But if you’re a woman and you’re about to get a job with Facebook or Apple, then this news is going to either appall you, or bring you lots of joy. Facebook and Apple are offering to pay for the freezing of their female employees’ eggs.
This is a controversial issue for most people because of the reason behind this decision. If this is a win-win situation, then why doesn’t it appear to be that?
The egg harvesting and freezing procedure is a highly expensive one, costing up to $10,000 and $500 per year for the storage of the eggs. Facebook is already offering this perk and Apple will begin to offer it January of 2015. This is the first time a company offers this benefit.
