Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will launch an electric minivan. On January 3rd, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is bound to reveal its concept for their next generation of vehicles. During the CES technology trade show in Las Vegas, the automaker will share its new plan of developing electric cars suitable for family transportation.
This company will unveil the new Chrysler Portal concept, an electric minivan for six people. The concept car was designed to fulfill the needs of a consumer who is cost-conscious, but also environmentally friendly. Tim Kuniskis, the company’s head of passenger car brands for North America, claimed that the Chrysler Portal concept is based on relevant research regarding the millennial generation.
Millennial consumers have noted that they expect a long-term car bound to grow with them as they experience different changes during their lifetime. The newly developed electric minivan is assumed to have approximately 250 miles of range. This includes about 150 miles of range in about twenty minutes due to the use of the DC fast-charge system.
The charge port is located behind the access door in the front fascia of the Portal. The winged badge of the Chrysler situated on the front fascia will pulse whenever the car is being charged, indicating the charge level of the battery pack. The interior and exterior design of the car is modern, being concentrated on technological aspects. For example, the car is equipped with sliding doors designed to open from the middle of the vehicle.
The seats are track-mounted being outfitted with bottom cushions developed to fold up, enabling the seats to push together to free more cargo space. Ralph Gilles, the head of design at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, pointed out that the portal was developed from the inside out. Firstly, designers’ purpose was to create a “third space” meant to bring comfort during the commute between work and home.
The new electric minivan is bound to adapt to millennial lifestyle. Up to six people can enjoy the ride. Millennials, who are considered to be those individuals born between the 1980s and early 2000s, are deemed to be the next major vehicle buyers. The steering wheel may be folded and kept in the instrument panel when the car is parked. Developers at Fiat Chrysler argued that the Portal can perform Level Three semi-autonomous operation.
