flappy bird

Earlier this year, in March, we told you that Flappy Bird could come back in the app marketplace. Back in the day, creator Dong Nguyen didn’t have many plans with the game, meaning that he wasn’t thinking about any upgrades or updates.

He just wanted to take a break and remove the temptation from our smartphones, as voices everywhere criticized the game for being a danger to people. The game was accused of distracting them, stealing precious time from their lives and leading to poor professional and academical performances. So Nguyen took his favorite toy and left us only with a promise of a future potential come-back:

Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed. But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever.

After the Flappy Bird was pulled out from Android and iOS app stores in February, dozens of game copycats flooded smartphones all over the world. We reviewed two such games, but none compared to the Flappy Bird. In the meantime, Nguyen has received death threats for taking down the game. Keeping in mind that you can’t please everybody, Nguyen thought of a compromise.

The world can breathe in peace: Flappy Bird is coming back!

In an interview for CNBC, Nguyen confirmed that the internationally successful brain – washing, thumb – numbing game phenomenon Flappy Bird is going to rebirth from its own ashes and bless our world once more. However, you will have to wait until August, apparently. It seems that Nguyen took good advantage of his break and reconsidered the promise of not upgrading the game. Flappy Bird is coming back in a multiplayer version! This means it will be less addictive, or so Nguyen likes to believe, because the game will allow users to play against each other and be safer from the perils of addiction.

At the time he pulled off the game from the app stores, Nguyen was making up to $50,000 a day, even if he also confessed that he wasn’t comfortable with the pressure the game unleashed upon him. However, as any financial consultant would tell you, giving up on $50,000 a day is not the smartest budget decision one can make, so maybe Flappy Bird is coming back for other reasons than offering the world an improved free game. But, to be honest, it doesn’t matter. It’s not long before August and we are sure that more news and information regarding Nguyen and the Flappy Bird will come up. So stay tuned and prepare your fingertips!
