This means Samsung will not offer the Galaxy Round outside of their home-town South Korea, where the culture is less resilient of change in the mobile industry. Samsung will not sell this out to South Korea’s through advertisements and will make limited amounts for users who want to try the Galaxy Round out.
It is a little odd Samsung has decided to almost drop the device out of the public eye, especially since the LG G Flex is almost ready to launch with the same curved display. The Galaxy Round has been mocked pretty hard, with all the hype surrounding flexible displays, this was a huge disappointment.
For those that missed the Galaxy Round announcement, Samsung basically grabbed a Galaxy Note 3, took the AMOLED screen and replaced it with an OLED and curved it from side to side, making it harder to see the smartphone. They also added some TouchWiz features for the rounded display, but we have no idea how well these work and if they are useful.
The Galaxy Round will cost a hefty sum to any South Korea enthusiast and we wouldn’t recommend it, with the design looking rather odd and pointless. There is hardly any functionality change on the Galaxy Round and no big difference to make the tech gadget worth any money.
In other flexible display news, Apple is apparently working on adding an OLED curved screen to their iWatch. This will allow Apple to make the device out of one piece of glass or metal, depending on their preference.
