Gears of War 4 players should be thrilled to find out that the new cross-platform play allows PC users and Xbox One users to play the game in versus mode. The developer of the match, The Coalition, together with Microsoft made this possible. They have announced the big news on January 27. In the Social Quickplay playlist of Gears of War 4 we have now available this fantastic cross-play mode.
The update could bring a lot of benefits to both PC gamers and Xbox gamers, making the game more popular among players since they will now that they can compete for one against each other even if they do not use the same device. Liam Ashley, the manager of The Coalition, stated that the addition of this revolutionary platform, the Xbox One vs. Windows 10 cross-play is bound to remain a permanent feature of Social Quickplay.
During the first few months, there will exist a trial period to monitor the feedback they receive from gamers and make improvements if necessary. Nevertheless, the Core and Competitive playlists of the game will not be able to sustain the cross-platform play.
The developer of Gears of War 4 also noted that irrespective of the intensively matched performance between those who use both platforms to play the game, experts from the team of developers want to make sure that their Ranked experience is as competitive and nearly matched as possible. Last year, the Coalition held a test to verify the impact and results of the new cross-platform multiplayer.
According to data received from more than 750,000 matches, developers concluded that the newly implemented platform had good enough results to be applied in the game. The Coalition also shared some statuses regarding the tests which were made back then.
About 115,000 participants took part in the testing process, being split 91/9 from Xbox to Windows 10. More than 90% of all matches played during the weekend included a mix of Xbox and Windows 10 players. Gamers who used Xbox and those who used Windows 10 developed closely-matched results when they compared, Kills, Score and Average KD per match, based on skill ratings.
The quality of matches became better for both Windows 10 and Xbox players. Players completed about 95% of all social games they entered vs. 90% before Cross-play Weekend.
