Come summer, it’s that time again – the time to review bad movies and their spin-off merchandise. But so far, the horizon doesn’t seem as filled with bad acting, poorly scripted dialogue and bad plot ideas as it did in previous years; unless you’re referring to the new Ghost Busters movie, which will hit theaters on July 15th to the disappointment of fans of the original movies all over the world.
As you might already know if you followed the news on this summer’s wannabe blockbuster remake, the movie was seen with skepticism at best ever since it was announced. And the trailer that came out last month did absolutely nothing to change that opinion; it did just the opposite.
While many are claiming that it’s just because of the all-female cast just so they can keep supporting the movie, the truth is that the comedic brilliance of the cast of the previous has yet to be rivaled. And when the trailer offers you CGI worse than the special effects of thirty years ago, you should probably think it’s time to reconsider.
But if there is one pop-culture thing worse than bad wannabe blockbusters, it’s video games made after bad wannabe blockbusters. So we’re sad to announce that a new Ghostbusters game is coming out on consoles in July. And according to a report from Activision, the gameplay will resemble… Diablo.
To be fair, video game tie-ins to movies aren’t known to be some of the best experiences out there (unless we’re talking about the 2002 Spiderman, which is the only exception to this, at least in my book), so seeing as this game will be just a tie-in so as for the producers to milk as much money as they can from the already dying cash cow, let’s just say expectations aren’t running high.
But enough dilly-dallying around the subject. You’re here to read about the new up-coming Ghostbusters game, so enough backstory. The game will be set immediately after the movie, as four players will take control of four entirely new characters. If you’re wondering where the cast of the new movie is, they’re out taking care of high-profile cases, as the events of the movie made them famous.
And if you’re worried about the fact that I mentioned a multiplayer, don’t worry. There are no more details about the gameplay other than the statement that it’s going to play a bit like Diablo. If that means that it’s a dungeon crawler, a hack-and-slash, or simply that it will fail at properly bringing back a franchise after many, many years can only be told with the passage of time.
But if you still want to be part of the new Ghostbusters hype without buying a console, there’s also a mobile coming out around the same time that is bound to be better than both the movie and the main game. So in my opinion, you’re just better off getting off the hype train as soon as possible.
