Nowadays, ride-sharing apps like Uber have become a lot more popular than cabs, as they offer people a better riding experience. For a long time, you have been able to book such a ride directly from Google Maps. Now, the tech giant decided to make some changes and removed Uber integration from the Android version of Maps.
Uber made ride-sharing simple
For a long time, people have used cabs to ride from one point to another. However, the experience wasn’t always a pleasant one, as drivers could take longer routes or ask you to pay more for the ride. This is precisely why Uber appeared, seeking to make it more pleasant for people to travel through the city.
Apart from better service, Uber offers you a series of other features. After booking a ride, the app shows you how much time it should take you to get to your destination, together with a price estimate. It will also display a preferred route, so you can check if your driver respects it. This also allows you to change the route with a better one, in case you know one.
Google Maps abandoned Uber integration on Android
One great thing about this app was that Google Maps had Uber integration. Whenever you looked for a route from one point to another, it showed you what cars were nearby. Then, you could book a ride directly from this app. From now on, it will no longer be possible.
After showing you the available cars, Google Maps will display a button that launches the Uber app. If you don’t have it installed, this button will lead you to the Play Store, where you can download it. Since Uber integration is no longer available, it means you cannot book rides on Google Maps anymore.
Apple Maps also had Uber integration, but this feature disappeared for Apple users as well. Last summer, the company permanently abandoned this feature. From now on, it will take a bit longer to schedule a ride, but the process still remains highly accessible.
