A year ago British Telecommunications had filed a lawsuit against Google, and Google struck back at the telecommunications giant with a patent lawsuit. Google is being supported by its Motorola Mobility unit in this act. British Telecom had filed a lawsuit against Google in the year 2011 for six patents pertaining to different technologies. However, Google claimed four patents to be its own in a lawsuit which the company filed in a federal court in California. The company claimed that British Telecom was wrongly selling these products as its own in the market.
Niki Fenwick, The spokeswoman of Google also said that Google had also started pursuing a lawsuit against the telecom giant in a United Kingdom court. According to Fenwick, her company considers litigation as the last option and they try everything they can to avoid litigation. However, she said that BT has not only filed many meritless cases against Google and its customers.
British Telecom representatives refused to comment on the pending litigation. Suffolk Technologies LLC also sued Google in a federal court in Virginia and British telecom previously owned a patent now owned by Suffolk technologies. Even Suffolk representatives and attorney refused to comment on the situation.
In its lawsuit Google has stated that British telecom is violating patents owned by Google which involve technology like making phone calls with the use of the internet and networking. Google has succeeded in filing a lawsuit and obtaining at the minimum one of its patents from the company International Business Machines Corp in the year 2010. The case filed by Google against British Telecom is a US district court in the Central District of California. This case is Google Inc v. BT Americas Inc, BT Ins Inc, BT Conferencing Inc and Ipanema Technologies Corporation.
