It’s been years since Hangouts has seen the light of day and after times of trial, error and tribulations, Hangouts has finally managed to get its own dedicated website. It has earned it, if we come to think about it, and users have been waiting for it for too long already. The new URL follows Google’s normal naming convention, namely hangouts.google.com and the homepage basically works like a detailed version of the existing Hangouts interface.
Users will be able to see a list of contacts on the left while conversations expand out as separate tabs on the right side of the screen. Quite a simple and efficient approach, nothing less than we have expected from the Google giant.
Users will be able to use the new Google Hangouts feature as one of the many ways to access the messaging service. When you don’t want to keep your Gmail open or your default browser is a different one than Firefox and cannot install the Chrome extension, it is good to know that you can use Hangouts on a website of its own. The interface is highly interactive, as the website’s photo background changes every few minutes just like Chromecast does and it also offers quick links to video calling, messaging and voice calling.
When you click on the “video call” option a new tab will launch and ask for permission to access your webcam. The already classic Hangouts chat window will appear the moment when you click message while the “phone call” option is set to display your contacts on a white panel, which looks exactly like a classic chat box.
Moreover, you will see a hamburger button on the top left corner, set to open a pop-out menu that links to the Hangouts listing on iTunes, Google Play and Chrome.
The fact that Google Hangouts will have a website of its own enables users more efficiently manage their account and better enjoy all the features it offers.
As Jordanna Chord, Google’s software engineer has recently announced, “From our new site, you will be able to take advantage of the best Hangouts in the browser, along with an inspiring image to get you through the day”.
It is clear that with this new initiative Google tries to keep close to its users and make everything possible to facilitate their way to all the features they have developed.
