The new model features many great upgrades, the most obvious being a smaller size and weight. HERO3 lost 25 percent of its weight and shrunk its size by 1/3 as compared to its predecessor the HERO2; it now weighs in at just 2.6 ounces. It also boasts 4 times greater resolution with 3 field-of-view options allowing users to chose between ultra-wide, medium and narrow for all the perspectives you could want.
Enhancements are not restricted to the picture quality; the new model features a processor twice as fast as its ancestor. HERO3 captures images at three times the rate of HERO2 with 12MP burst capture at 30 frames a second. It has improved low light performance and a new mode that allows you to set the rate of photo capture from 3, 5 or 10 photos a second for continuous still shots.
In the audio department, GoPro enhanced HERO’s already awesome wind-noise reduction and changed the audio capture to be more versatile. It now can capture any range of sounds with quality including: human voice, nature and music.
The best new feature of the HERO3 is the built in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi remote. The Wi-Fi remote allows user to control up to 50 different cameras. This can allow anyone to make those great multi angle clips that you see in the movies. The remote comes as an add-on for $79 for silver and White, but is included with the Black edition. You can also control the cameras via a phone or tablet app.
The HERO3 comes in three price ranges according to the picture quality. The black edition that comes with the remote is $399 and has all the specs listed above. The silver and white come in at $299 and $199 with 11MP stills and 5Mp stills. All three feature multiple mounting options including both curved and flat adhesive mounts.
For anyone looking to shoot some great action film, or any film at all, the HERO3 brings quality, versatility, and speed to a whole new level.
