The Huawei Ascend P7 looks to be more of the same from the Chinese smartphone maker, we are going to see a 5-inch full HD display, 1.6GHz quad-core processor built in house, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, microSD slot and an 8MP front facing camera.
Having an 8MP front facing camera will really push the limits of the “selfie” and Huawei is looking to have this as one of the major features on the smartphone. Other than that, the phone will apparently be made out of luxurious materials.
Luxurious materials leaves a lot to suspect, we know it will not be plastic, Huawei has already progressed past this with the Ascend P6 getting a solid aluminium build, looking quite similar to the iPhone 5 and a little bit thinner and lighter.
The one big criticism of the Ascend P6 was the Emotions UI shipped on the Android smartphone. It felt like something Samsung would ship two years ago, but with less consistency and a real absence of design and understanding of the user experience and simplicity.
Almost everything about Emotions 2.0 is still bad and Huawei is going to have a lot of trouble grabbing anyone who actually likes or has ever used stock Android. Huawei are in a prime place to make an amazing smartphone, but they are let down by their software, the same as almost every Android manufacturer shipping with a custom skin.
We still do not have a clear date on when the Huawei Ascend P7 will ship, hopefully sometime in early 2014, the same time as the Galaxy S5, Xperia Z2 and HTC Two (name still questionable) at CES or MWC 2014.
