As is common knowledge by now, Apple will be launching its next iPhone variant, the iPhone 5S this fall. The smartphone will come with a new more powerful chip, a better camera and of course the all new iOS 7 operating system right out of the box. Or so the analysts believe though it lacks any sort of official confirmation from Apple.
However, the Connecticut based company won’t just have a new iPhone version coming our way this fall since a new smaller iPhone is also expected to make a splash during the same time. The iPhone Mini, as it is being referred to now in tech circles, will not only be about its size that will be smaller than the flagship iPhone but also its price as well. Such a device has suddenly assumed a lot of importance for Apple in the face of the ever growing dominance of Samsung that seems to have a smartphone in almost every price bracket. And not to mention it is the Android platform that is slowly but surely emerging the dominant platform in the mobile segment thanks to Samsung.
So what does Apple do in such a scenario? Obviously, its strategy of having just a single smartphone model in its lineup isn’t working and that too in the premium segment. Dipping lower on the price front remains the only option for Apple, and it is here that the iPhone Mini becomes relevant. Also, Apple won’t just be resorting to reducing the size of the budget iPhone to keep costs low but is also reported to be using plastic to make the device.
Meanwhile, there have been quite a few leaked shots of the iPhone Mini that has emerged online and reveal several attractive color options to appeal to our tastes. What remains to be seen now is what will be Apple’s pricing strategy with the iPhone Mini and when it hits the streets.
