Microsoft was revealed to encounter some security problems after Kaspersky complained about it. The Russian antitrust authority has already opened an investigation because Microsoft was accused of abusing its power over Kaspersky software market. Currently, The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) is investigating if Microsoft has violated the law which regards the protection of competition.
This regulation restricts companies which have a superior position in the market from indulging in activities that can result in eliminating, limiting or preventing competition. What is more, the actions of this kind of companies need to be stopped before violating the interests of others when it comes to business activities.
The FAS started conducting the investigation after it received a complaint from the security company Kaspersky Lab. Kaspersky complained about spending unnecessary time trying to convince Microsoft through a series of discussions to solve the security issue directly, without no one else involved.
Kaspersky has also argued that Microsoft has reduced the period of adaptation for those developers who need to adapt their antivirus for the operating system of the Windows 10. The time span now has decreased to only six days allocated for the process of adaptation, compared with earlier versions of the Windows which requested two months to adapt.
Moreover, when a user upgrades the Windows to the most advanced operating system, the antivirus software is immediately impaired. In the meantime, the Microsoft Windows Defender system is bound to take control over the situation by default.
The same situation is prone to occur when the user installs other apps when Microsoft already has a competing supply in its system. Eugene Kaspersky complained that the antivirus software does not have enough time to provide the necessary service for their customers in just six days, which is the allowed adaptation period. Developers from Kaspersky can risk losing their customers to Defender company.
Kaspersky also added that Microsoft disguises the expiration warnings of the antivirus license, automatically activating Defender if the trial period expires. Anatoly Golomolzin, who is the Deputy Head of FAS, has argued that Kaspersky’s complaints cast an unpleasant shadow over Microsoft. He also stated that the goal of FAS is to establish similar requirements for all participants which are part of the same market.
Kaspersky claimed that Microsoft only designs the illusion of security for their users while annihilating the basic principles, meaning democracy and transparency.
