LG executive reveals plans for smartwatch, larger phone and Firefox OS device

LG has a busy 2014 according to one executive, who has outed a new Firefox OS device, followed by a smartwatch and a larger smartphone running Android later in the year.

Dimitar Valev, Sales and Marketing Manager for LG in Bulgaria, has announced the news of the three new devices coming from LG in 2014, this is a bit pre-emptive from the manager and we wonder if this didn’t slip in the back of his mind.

On the subject of the smartwatch, Valev said in 2009 when LG released their first smartwatch the world was not ready for this type of accessory technology, but with advances from Pebble, the company now has trust the device will succeed.

Good news is LG will not keep the smartwatch locked in Korea, saying they should have the device in the US sometime in late 2014. This is the time the iWatch is expected to launch and we already know the Galaxy Gear is coming very soon.

Early in February LG announced support for Firefox OS but they have yet to make a device for the new mobile operating system. Valev has said LG hopes to get the Firefox OS device on the market before the end of 2014.

There will also be another LG smartphone, the size will be larger than the LG G2, Optimus Pro and Optimus View, pointing at a possible 6-inch device to contend with the Xperia Z Ultra, Huawei Ascend Mate and Samsung Galaxy Mega.

This does seem like a good range of devices and LG is stepping into the Firefox OS market, currently with ZTE and Huawei, they will also be entering the smartwatch and phablet markets, both with Android.

Valev has also hinted at a launch this year, this could be the LG tablet that has been rumoured recently. This will be the first tablet from LG since 2011, since the Optimus Tab failed. The new tablet will be called the LG G Pad and may come with a Snapdragon 800 and 1080p display.
