For all the Apple addicts getting excited about what the mini will be like, someone is letting the cat out of the bag. Or in this case the battery out of the ipad. In two leaked photos, Apple product labels and battery capacity can be clearly identified. The battery in the photos is about three times the capacity of the iphone, just slightly less than the ipad 2 but about 1/3 of the latest generation ipad
Most likely it is a prototype since it lacks all the product labels of a normal apple battery. This means that although it is most likely authentic, it may differ from what Apple end up using in its final product. The battery is 3.72 volts, with 16.7 Wat-hours verses the ipad 3 that has 42 wat-hours, or the iphone with just 5. Given a smaller screen and no retinal display, the mini will probably have around the same battery life as and ipad 2. . Although this photo could be a fake, it is unlikely given that markings match previous examples of apple tech.
This lines up well if Apple has indeed based the mini off of the ipad 2. If the mini does use this battery it will be very similar to what its competitor the Nexus is using. A base price was also leaked placing the mini at 249 Euros. So an upgraded mini will likely cost more than a Nexus or Kindle Fire. For Apple that is not surprising, given that consumers are usually willing to pay more for their products. Regardless, with the launch date of the mini counting down, it won’t be long till we know these for certain.
