Garry Newman, the creator of the Garry`s Mod sandbox game, has recently offered a public response within a post on his blog to the new Paid Mods Program of Steam. Creator of Garry`s Mod replies Steam`s program which involves a new commerce practice. The main purpose of this action is to allow selling mods by developers and modders alike via the Steam Workshop directly. Anyways, we have a modding community angered by Valve and their mod market service.
Garry Newman`s point of view has been regarded as fairly interesting by most of the tech analysts who are concerned with this matter. Tech enthusiasts as well shared such an opinion on the comments of Garry Newman, creator of Garry`s Mod, which has firstly come out as a free mod and then, after a period of time, became a paid mod.
Within the post he wrote on his blog, Garry Newman has emphasized the fact that its has been created a lot of fuss concerning the paid mods and the payment process. The modder thinks that there are amounts of unnecessary craziness about the subject. The developer announced that he personally welcomes the project, and does not agree with most of its critics.
“I sold a mod once and everyone was angry that it was happening, until it happened and they got a much better product than they’d have gotten when it was released for free, then they seemed to calm down a bit”
Garry Newman wrote on his blog, arguing that selling mods has opened a whole new career opportunity for him and the employees on his company.
In addition to that, Garry Newman made some comment referring to the revenue share of the developers and modders who create mods for various games. At the moment, the authors of the mods receive a 25 per cent share of the sales, but Newman reckons that this situation will change and for the better.
Garry Newman has added that an important aspect of the paid mods is that the products which are for sale are still mods, after all. There is no real need for them in order to play a game, and it remains the player`s choice f they want to buy a mod or not. Garry Newman also suggested that pirating is always an option for the players who don`t have the money or do not want to pay for a specific mod.
However, he mentioned that the responsibility of Valve is to assure a safe way in which the players do not have to pirate content.
