Apple has found a new opponent in the cell phone ring. Long gone are the days when customers were eager to jump in on the new iPhone release over any other phone on the market.Instead, users are looking toward the Samsung phone releases as well.
Each version of the Apple IPhone has seen an increase in purchasing intentions in recent years, although numbers are starting to plateau. No problem there until you look at the Samsung numbers.Samsung seems to be increasing in buying intention numbers. This looks great for Samsung, but not as good for Apple, and other mobile phone makers.
The market tends to be concentrated on two specific makers leaving no room for makers such as RIM,Nokia, and other makers of smart phones. This could be bad news for these makers as customers focus their buying efforts on just these two companies.
One reason for the increase in sales for Samsung is the inexpensive devices they offer.Very comparable to the iPhone, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has seen buyers abandon their thoughts of Apple being the only maker of high technological features on a phone. The Galaxy S3 not only performs well and contains great features that many people did not expect to see with Samsung, but it also costs less than the IPhone making it a great buy for those wanting to save a little.
One set of numbers the public has yet to see is the abandonment percentages. While IPhone numbers may be plateauing, we are not clear if IPhone users are switching over to Samsung or if the increase in sales lies from customers of other makers not related to Apple. Both companies plan to reveal new phones in the upcoming year.It is sure to be a fierce competition as Apple sees a little more competitiveness than they are used to.
