Apple just launched an app on Google Play Store that allows Android users to transfer all of their data to iOS. Android fans are not happy.
Android users bombarded Apple’s app with thousands of 1-star ratings and reviews, considering it some kind of try-hard attempt to lure them away from Android.
“Everything about iOS is designed to be easy. That includes switching to it. With just a few steps, you can migrate your content automatically and securely from your Android device with the Move to iOS app. No need to save your stuff elsewhere before switching from Android.” is the app’s description. The free app is called Move to iOS, and it is capable of sending all your important Android data, such as contacts, photos and calendars to iOS.
One review that was featured among the most popular reads as “Dear Apple I downloaded this application with hopes of switching over to Ios from android. I’ve burned all my pencils since the only worthy writing tool is the holy apple pencil. I’ve decided to sell one of my kidneys, because I need that gold apple watch. And now I gotta have the iPhone 6s, because 3d touch just sounds like an intimate way to get to know my phone. Hope to throw my money at you soon sincerely- Mr. Complete Sarcasm.”
However, out of more than 7,500 reviews, that remains one of the more friendly comments the app received. Other review reads “If Apple was a country it would be North Korea.”, while another popular one is not as humouristic “Apple, you could not pay me enough to use your closed, handcuffed, featureless products. The fact that google allows you to peddle this smut on the Play store perfectly demonstrates exactly why no one should switch to iOS… Choice, something that will never be available with Apple.”
The app has a rating of 1.9 stars (out of five) in the Google Play Store, after more than 10,000 votes. So if Apple fans are looking to defend their favorite company they have some catching up to do. Out of those 10,000 votes, more than 8,000 have given the app a single star, whereas at the other end, only 1,800 people have given it the highest possible rating. Android users also flagged Move to iOS as inappropriate, despite its popularity on Google+.
Move to iOS won’t be the Cupertino’s company first app to be released on Google Play Store. Apple is planning to launch another app called Apple Music. Google already has a solid bunch of apps in Apple’s App Store, from Google Maps, and Google Drive, to Google Search.
