Micron Technology has announced their new product, the M600 SATA SSD. The new Micron SSD promises to be the best drive they’ve ever made. The M600 SATA was designed to improve power efficiency and deliver a better performance, as well as increasing durability and lifespan. The new Micron SSD comes with a 256 bit hardware encryption and it will be available from 128GB to 1 TB.
The new Micron SSD will replace the previous M550 and is positioned on the higher end of Micron’s client segment. It will also be above the M500 and M510, Micron said.
The new Micron SSD is already in production and it will only be available for the manufacturers of original equipment, as well as for systems integrators and businesses.
The new Micron SSD is being pitched to mobile computing applications, like tablets, desktops and even video cameras. The new M600 SSD will consume less than 2 milliwatts if it’s in sleep mode and about 150mW if the device is active. This will improve the battery life on laptops, says Micron. The new Micron SSD will feature a new technology called DWA (dynamic write acceleration), which means that it will switch the drive’s NAND flash components and will improve the performance.
Darren Thomas, vice president of Micron’s storage segment stated:
“The M600 sets a new bar for power, security and efficiency in client SSDs and delivers on our vision to provide the most advanced storage solutions. OEMs expect Micron to deliver leading-edge SSDs that give their products an advantage and a noticeably better user experience. The M600 fulfills that promise.”
Micron has also said that the new SSD has enhanced longevity and the 1TB model can reach up to 400TB total bytes written, which means that this is enough to write 220GB daily for five years.
The new Micron SSD will not be produced as a retail version yet and it will be priced at somewhere around $450.
