London has hosted today the fatuous release of the new and improved version of the Raspberry Pi single board computer. The Raspberry Pi 2 promises high speed and quality, thanks to its brand new quad-core ARMv7 processor of Pi 2 is six times faster than the former Raspberry Pi. It is running at 900MHz, in comparison with the Pi 1 that could reach only 700MHz and it was a single-core. Also, the memory is expanded, showing a great improvement with its doubled RAM at 1GB. All these features make Eben Upton, Raspberry Pi founder and CEO, believe that you can easily turn the Pi 2 into a PC that reaches high expectations.
The pins do the job straight away: the GPiO pins bring success by their high powered management and connectivity abilities. As a consequence, four USB devices can be connected in the same time to it, working smoothly together; hard drives are included as a possibility here, even if they are quite powered for other similar devices. However, the Raspberry Pi is a promising answer to this kind of demands.
A very important aspect of the Pi 2 is that the creative engineers that have designed it have worked with Microsoft in order to make is compatible and very reliant to the new Windows 10, which has become an appreciated operating system, even if the number of users who have tried it is not very big. Also, Ubuntu has collaborated with the Pi 2, so they will make a good team.
As far as the price is concerned, it will be very similar, if not the same as the original one – $35. The internal designation is guaranteed by the company to run “”bigger and more powerful projects” than its predecessors.
Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi Trading said that
“Today’s launch of Raspberry Pi 2 takes the Raspberry Pi platform to a completely new level.”
However, the device will have to make an effort to stay tall and remain an elite, because of its competition: Arduino, Intel Galileo, Gizmo 2, BeagleBone Black and Hummingboard, and last, but not least, the Creator CI20, from British chip designer Imagination. Claire Doyle, global head of Raspberry Pi at element14 have a succinct update.
“The Raspberry Pi 2 delivers exceptional speed and power at a low cost, opening up new opportunities for innovation. Solutions such as the Internet of Things
