Few game companies have as much history as Nintendo. The company has been around for a long as some of us have lived, and despite recent turmoil they have managed to gather quite a significant fanbase over their many years. And for good reason, too. Many of Nintendo’s games are considered to be classics and hardcore fans will hear none of it when you say anything bad about the company.
But with all its rich history and memorable games, the company has been struggling in recent times. In fact, according to a financial report, Nintendo has to step up to overcome financial crisis. Other than with very successful Miitomo, the company has been pretty much bleeding profits recently.
Of course, the people behind the Japanese corporation already have a number of ideas on how to take care of the situation, but that can’t really help them in their current predicament. So, what caused this financial crisis over at Nintendo, and what are the higher-ups planning to do to fix it?
Well, there are multiple things that led to the current business crisis over at the Nintendo headquarters, and all of them should have easily been detected by the company. And pretty much all of them can be tied in to the poor sales of one product or another.
First of all, Nintendo’s console sales have dropped significantly, with the Wii U losing a lot of ground to rivals Sony and Microsoft. The handhelds aren’t doing that much better, with the 3DS sales also dropping sharply due to their continued competition with smart phone and tablet games.
So how are the usually very creative people from Nintendo planning to fix their current conundrum? Just like any other company – come up with more products to promote, hopefully ones that will sell better this time. And they will also broaden their horizons somewhat, moving into previously not that explored territory.
For starters, the corporation proudly announced the launch of their new console, the Nintendo NX in March 2017. Seeing as it won’t be competing against the other two main consoles, the PlayStation and the Xbox, it is expected that the sales will be much better than for the Wii U – as long as the console is good enough.
Finally, the company is planning to keep expanding in the mobile industry, since their Miitomo social media/video game hybrid did exceptionally well since it was launched, gathering millions of users in just a few days. And with the handheld market doing so well in these past few years, it’s quite certain that if they keep it up they will start making their money back in no-time.
