The project was apparently crushed when Microsoft moved to acquire half of Nokia, the industrial side that deals with all the smartphone business. This may not have been the end of Normandy however, with news Nokia will continue to develop the Android device.
Evleaks has been hot on the ball, revealing a new press render of the Nokia Normandy device. The design is very similar to low-end Lumia smartphones Nokia has created, with the vibrant colors and rubber polycarbonate back.
In terms of specs, the Nokia Normandy device will apparently come with a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, 8MP rear camera and Android 4.4 KitKat, with Nokia’s own UI looking similar to Windows Phone.
The Android smartphone will also run some of Microsoft’s favorite applications pre-installed, including SkyDrive, Skype, Xbox SmartGlass and Office. This would be an awesome combo to the great design Nokia is capable of creating.
Price will be the real deciding factor, everyone has said Nokia would do well if they shipped on Android, but when they step up to the plate on the low-end they are going up against some real tough devices, including Motorola’s Moto G.
Nokia has proved with the Lumia 520 that they can be the masters of low-end and recent reports say around 25 percent of devices running Windows Phone actually are Nokia’s low end Lumia 520 and 521 devices.
If they can replicate that on Android, the scale will be much larger, with more people wanting to grab an Android smartphone and Nokia being a well known brand, it feels like a combination made for the big time.
