Chipmaker Nvidia does not seem to remain confined to making just the chips. For after having launched the Shield hand held gaming consoles which received some positive reviews since its launch, the company appears to be devoting its resources to making a 7 inch tablet device. Supposedly named the Tegra Tab, the tablet appears to include a 7 inch display as well as a stylus. If the tablet is indeed slated for a market launch and is not an internal developer oriented project than it would mean another competitor in the hot 7 inch tablet segment. The recently launched Nexus 7 can well be considered the best offering in this segment right now. The first gen Nexus 7 came with a Tegra chip though Google has since shifted its preference to a Qualcomm chip for the new Nexus 7. The Tegra Tab powered by Tegra 4 can be considered as the chipmaker’s way to seek vengeance against the Google tablet.
However, that is too much of speculation and coming back to what we have on hand, the tablet as revealed in the two images leaked so far show off a be speckled rear akin to the first gen Nexus 7 together with a unique pattern covering. A rear facing camera occupied the top left corner along with what seems to a SIM card slot along the side. There also is a mini HDMI port along with a slot to house the stylus.
Nvidia meanwhile has already confirmed they are developing the next gen Surface RT device. This together with Microsoft encouraging the development of cheaper 7 inch Windows RT based tablets has prompted many to believe the Tegra Tab could also be a Windows RT based device as well. Again, this is mere speculation at best.
Meanwhile, there is also report about Nvidia developing a Tegra 5 based tablet as well for a 2014 launch.
