The founders of OkCupid are not the only people dissatisfied with the election of Brendan Eich. Mozilla employees have called for Eich’s resignation and some of them even resigned from Mozilla. Other software developers have criticized the decision to make Eich the CEO.
All this because Brendan Eich, who invented the programming language known as Javascript and who is also a co-founder of Mozilla, donated $1000 in 2008 in support of the Californian Proposition 8 which banned gay marriages in the state of California.
Eich has recently apologized for the inconveniences he caused with his personal political views and has vowed to sustain a culture of equality as the new CEO and to maintain Mozilla’s positive views for same-sex couples and equality.
OkCupid Boycotts Mozilla Firefox – Mozilla responds
As a response, Mozilla stated that Brendan Eich’s views do not in any ways reflect the company’s position which is a supporter of marriage equality for all including the marriage equality of LGBT couples. The Mozilla spokesperson said: “Mozilla supports equality for all, including marriage equality for LGBT couples. No matter who you are or who you love, everyone deserves the same rights and to be treated equally. OkCupid never reached out to us to let us know of their intentions, nor to confirm facts.”
