FollowChitika, the online advertising network, concluded today that OS X Yosemite might be a big hit. Numbers gathered between June 2nd and July 3rd convey a large interest for the new OS developer preview. OS X Yosemite will be introduced in the fall. We already covered some changes in the photo management coming to OS X Yosemite.
Compared to OS X Mavericks, OS X Yosemite was installed by four times more people in the first month after the developer preview release. Absolute numbers might say less than proportions and we do have to be cautious while providing interpretations. So for the first month, OS X Yosemite has a share of 0.2 percent, while Mavericks had 0.05 percent among the Mac machines.
As the name indicates, only developers had access to Yosemite so far. An annual $99 membership fee paid by registered developers allowed them to check the preview. Apple changes the OS release system this year. Since 2000, the general public did not have access to a beta version of each new OS. Fifty-nine percent of the users ran Mavricks on their Macs in June. The number is estimated to grow up to around 70 percent right before Yosemite’s release.
OS X Yosemite features
From what we know so far, the esthetic of Yosemite is a core improvement. Apple bets on a flatter and more translucent design, according to macrumors.com. A very simple, yet very useful feature will be SMS handling directly from the computer screen. While SMS messages might seem out dated, they will be synchronized all over Apple devices, so if anybody sends you one, you will integrate it in your overall messaging lists.
Safari suffered some changes as well. A ‘smart search’ will provide suggestions from Wikipedia, Maps, or iTunes, among others, as you type.
Besides, your Mac will take over almost every function of your iPhone if you need it to. If the iPhone is charging across the room, you will be able to connect and place a phone call straight from your desktop. The iCloud functionality has been improved. In Yosemite files can easily be placed in the iCloud by just moving them from one folder to another.
