Razer, the gaming company, decided to purchase the mobile company Nexbit. Razer has recently bought almost all the assets of the company Nexbit Systems Inc. What is more, they had also brought their employees and the management to lead the new business. On January 27, the deal closed. Based on a press release, Nexbit will remain a standalone company, being led by its management.
The company was developed due to the former head of design at HTC and some formers members from the Android team at Google. When asked about this significant change, Tom Moss, the CEO of Nextbit, stated that his company would benefit from this deal, receiving more resources to which otherwise it would not have access to.
The CEO also noted that his staff would remain in San Francisco, in their current location, without combining with the team from Razer. Moss continued to claim that Nextbit will pursue its mission of revolutionizing the mobile phone industry. Rumor has it that the company will probably produce new software and hardware.
So far, Nextbit has launched a single smartphone, the Robin. The smartphone appeared on the market about a year ago, after a charitable campaign on Kickstarter. This project brought them $1.3 million from approximately 3,600 funders. The company managed to raise $500,000 in only 12 hours, reaching their goal.
The Robin gathered a lot of fans due to its success, being acclaimed for its unique software design. Developers granted to “never run out of storage.” Tom Moss argued that Nextbit is bound to develop new software updates to be implemented on the Robin.
Razer will be ready to support a hardware insurance of six months, even if the smartphone is no longer available on official channels, being out of stock for a few months. This quarter, the update for the Android 7.0 Nougat will be bound to launch. Moreover, Nextbit also promised their users some battery updates which will soon be implemented.
Razer sees Nextbit as being an acquisition from a long series of other purchases. For example, Razer has purchased last year THX, the audio technology company. Probably, Razer will make other necessary purchases in the future too. Now, Nextbit has put all its trust in the new parent company, benefiting from its constant support.
