The White House has recently made it public that the e-mails of the United States President Barrack Obama have been breached by a group of Russian hackers. The officials who talked on behalf of the White House in connection to this matter have stated that there was no serious damage done and that the action of the hackers did not have severe consequences. Still, according to the New York Times, there could be a possibility that the White House is much more bothered by the Russian hackers who breached Obama`s e-mails that it has let to be seen.
A recent report by the New York Times revealed the fact that the cyber attack of the Russian hackers who breached Obama`s e-mails affected a larger area than it has been thought by now. According to the newspaper`s statement, the cyber attack extended its target from the e-mails between the president of the United States and people who were from inside the White House or in a few case from outside the building to a list of conversations with people who frequently communicated with Barrack Obama.
According to the officials who have led the investigation on the cyber attack at the White House, it seems like the e-mails the President has sent and also received have been compromised.
The Russian Hackers succeeded in breaching into the unclassified system of the State Department as well, and it looks like they have penetrated it deeply. Still, the official reports claim that the Russians were not able to get through the cyber security of the servers which are guarded more fiercely, like the ones who are responsible for the message traffic control of President Obama`s well known Blackberry. That mobile device is carried by Barrack Obama or by an aide at all times.
The information which the State Department system contain have been labelled as highly sensitive by the officials who admitted this fact. These networks include e-mails and conversations with diplomats or ambassadors, discussion over the personnel moves, information on legislation, a list of schedules and some policy debates as well.
The officials who have commented on the situation have also added that there was no damage done to the classified networks. According to them, the Russian hackers who breached Obama`s e-mails have not been able to get to the classified information. It seems that most of the senior officials have two computers in their offices. One operates with classified information, the other one is connected to the common world.
