The two South Korean smartphone makers are dashing to the first place spot, with Samsung and LG both developing curved smartphones. It looks like Samsung will be the winner, with news the Galaxy Round will be revealed before the end of October.
According to new reports, the Galaxy Round will have a 5.7-inch curved display, around the same size as the Galaxy Note 3. Currently there are no details regarding specs, we do not know if this will be a competitor in the high-end or something more like the Galaxy Mega.
Samsung is known for having an almost prototype attitude to their first products, with the Galaxy Gear being a clear example of a company not in sync with what they are trying to achieve and just testing anything to see if it sticks.
The Galaxy Round may be a fascinating prospect, having a curved and almost unbreakable device, but will there be anything beyond the look; will there be any practical use for a flexible display on the smartphone.
Nothing should be changed on the software side, we expect Samsung may add some features tailored to the experience, as they do on the Galaxy Note with the S Pen. We should see it come with Android 4.3 with TouchWiz UI.
Price wise we are not sure either, we believe Samsung will market it as a premium product even though it will come with the plastic backing, unless Samsung wants to change the formula for the new flexible device.
